The powershift version was equipped with a normally aspirated (non-turbo) D282 rated at 75hp at 2300rpm. The turbo version of the D282 is rated at 71 hp at 1800rpm, and this engine was only used in the manual gearshift model. The finals are not known for being weak, mine have held up perfectly and I've dug up my share of big oak stumps and dug enough hard clay pits to know. The clutches are dry type and can seize if you let the machine sit for years in a wet environment (gotta use them a bit here and there or store it in desert climes). You'll get a workout compared to newer machines with their joystick fingertip controls. The controls are a bit heavy, manual steering brakes and turning clutch levers. If things keep going the way they are now, we'll eventually become the new China making cheap junk for everyone else (and we'll be living in straw huts while doing so ).Īnyway, the machine itself is a good dozer. Since the Aussie dollar has strengthened nicely in recent times, that should mean you can buy more for your money than in earlier times - especially imported goods from the US. And the US to Aussie dollar exchange rate is hard to factor too, especially considering how well the Aussie dollar has been appreciating against the falling US dollar. But accounting for the local market prices in Australia is hard to factor because I've always heard things tend to be more expensive there due to the relative isolation of the Island (so everything must be shipped in from pretty far away). Even then most would opt for a newer machine for that kinda dough. $15K in US dollars is high for one here unless it were in impeccable condition and had a ROPS (most don't). The ones here were discontinued in 1974 (started production in '62 or '63 depending on where you read), so 1975 may or may not be a correct year for it. So I would think if NZ has what appears to be the same basic model as we have in the states, Aussies would also have the same type. I'm not sure if the Aussie versions of the TD9B are the same as we have in the states, but from what I've seen of the ones Mike Newman (resident kiwi IH expert) has posted, they look the same and I believe they share the D282 six cylinder diesel engine.
